Deliveries, Tradespeople and Removals on a Wembley Event Day
The short version. There is no event day exemption for an appointment. A plumber, a builder or a delivery driver parks under the same rules as everyone else, so the simplest plan is to book them for a day that is not a Wembley Event Day.
Who can park. On a Wembley Event Day, Brent's rule is that only residents and businesses with an event day permit can park in the zone. A tradesperson's van is no different from any other vehicle.
Can a tradesperson use your Visitor Permit? Brent's terms say Visitor Permits can only be used by bona fide visitors visiting the permit holder. They do not mention tradespeople either way, so ask Brent before relying on one.
Supermarket and parcel vans. In our experience they stop for as short a time as they can, often with their hazards on, and we have seen no special allowance for them on event days.
Loading on yellow lines. Brent's parking policy says the council normally allows stopping on a yellow line to load or unload goods, for up to 20 minutes, as long as the loading is continuous. Its event day pages do not say whether that changes on an event day.
Your driveway. A van on a private driveway is off the public highway, so the event day restrictions do not reach it.
Removals and building works: suspend a bay. Brent can suspend parking bays for home removals, building works and skip hire, and puts up notices once it approves.
- £67 per bay, per day
- £133 more if you apply less than 14 days ahead
- apply at least 7 working days ahead, or Brent may refuse
- a £30 fee for any change once approved, and £101 to cancel
Parking on a yellow line: a dispensation. For a removal or building works, Brent can allow a vehicle onto a single or double yellow line for up to four hours.
- £38 per vehicle, per day, on a single yellow line
- £73 on a double yellow line
- £10 a day for a skip
- £31 more with less than three days' notice
Check the date with Brent. Its suspension and dispensation pages do not say whether either holds on a Wembley Event Day, so name the date when you apply. The address is parking.suspensions@brent.gov.uk.
Businesses in the zone. A business with premises in the event day zone, outside a Controlled Parking Zone, can buy Brent's Business Permit for event days.
Plan the visit for another day. It is what we do with family visits too, because the bays on our street are far emptier when nothing is on.
