On a Saturday the streets around the stadium have no rush hour to hide behind, so the day is shaped entirely by the match. The residential restriction window opens at 10am, the fanpark at Boxpark opens an hour later, and from then until kick-off the pressure builds in one direction: towards the arch. If you live inside the zone and your visitor is not a permit holder, the window to get them parked and gone is the morning.

This is a sold-out England night, up to 90,000 people, and an international has a fixed kick-off. That makes it more predictable than a concert. Almost everyone is inside by 19:45 and almost everyone leaves together, so the crush at Wembley Park station comes in one wave rather than three. The Arena is also open. Anastacia starts at 18:00, around 12,500 people, so between six and half past seven two crowds are walking up Olympic Way at once. If you have a ticket for the Arena rather than the match, arrive before the football crowd does; by seven the concourse belongs to the England shirts.
