England v Czechia at Wembley Stadium

Eight hours and forty-five minutes. That is the gap between Boxpark opening its England fanpark at 11:00 and the ball being kicked at 19:45, and it is the number to plan around, because for most of a working Tuesday the area is full of people who are not going anywhere yet. The residential restriction window starts at 10am, an hour before the fanpark. So the streets are already inside the scheme when the first shirts arrive, and they stay inside it until midnight. Main roads close to non-permit parking from 8am. If you park in the zone on a normal Tuesday, this is not a normal Tuesday.

Nothing else is on. The Arena is dark that night, Boxpark has nothing but the fanpark, and Troubadour is between seasons: I'm Every Woman closed on 27 September and High School Musical does not open until the 12th. For once the stadium has Wembley Park to itself, which sounds quieter than it is. Up to 90,000 people arriving through the evening rush hour is the busiest kind of night the station has.

Whether the match is sold out is in the card above. Do not read much into it either way. The scheme is enforced on the date, not on the attendance.

Coming to the game: the fanpark is the reason to arrive early and the reason the walk home is slow. It runs to 23:00. Living here: the useful hours are before 10am and after midnight, and the evening commute is the worst of it. The Croatia game in November has the same shape and falls on a Thursday.
