On the ground

Three of the four venues have nothing on. The stadium is dark, Boxpark lists nothing for the day, and Troubadour is in its fortnight between seasons, with I'm Every Woman closed on 27 September and High School Musical not opening until the 12th. Simple Plan, with Stand Athletic and Charlotte Sands, has Wembley Park to itself.

Around 12,500 people for an 18:00 start on a Saturday, with no commute to argue with. Look at the card above and you will see what a night like this means in practice: no restriction rows on it at all. An Arena crowd still behaves like an Arena crowd. It arrives through the late afternoon, owns the walk from the station for twenty minutes either side of doors, and is gone within the hour after the last song. A stadium takes two or three times as long to empty.

The thing worth putting in the diary is not this Saturday. It is the Tuesday: England play Czechia at 19:45 on the 6th with the fanpark open from 11:00, which is a full event day and a working one. And the Sunday in between has BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha's celebrations at the Arena from 16:00, an afternoon crowd rather than an evening one.

If you have been putting off moving the car, this is the weekend with room to do it in.

Worth knowing for the drive itself: the roads around the ground are ordinary roads on an Arena-only night, and the car parks that sell out for a stadium fixture are not under the same pressure.
